I mean, we are just getting to know each other after all. In my opinion, every movie has its place and can be good or at minimum entertaining, if it knows the type of movie it is aiming to be and commits. The perfect way I can sum this up is that my favorite movies range all the way from Tremors (A-Tier, B-movie) to Oppenheimer and so on. Hopefully that makes sense, it did to me, but I also wrote it. Now on to the Odyssey... I don't even know where to start to be honest. I guess I'll start by saying do not let the nearly three-hour run time prevent you from seeing this movie. The three hour run time goes by faster than a Knicks comeback 4th quarter in the finals. Side note, did anyone have a worse final than Wemby? Not even that he lost, but everyone now knows he is a dirty player and kind of annoying. Do you think the monks let him back at the temple? I mean, not exactly the poster child of peace and tranquility. OK, back to the Odyssey. Simply put, the movie is amazing. The cinematography is unbelievable as is to be expected for a Nolan movie, but the sound in this movie hits different. It felt as if the theater turned the surround sound up to max levels. I mean, I practically felt like I was in the scenes with them. Nothing speaks to this more than the Cyclops scene. The howling sounds were unlike anything I have ever heard in a movie; they were spine chilling. My WHOOP even registered high levels of stress around this time (checked after the movie, I swear). One other major selling point of a movie for me is its ability to transport you to their world or reality. This movie did that to an 11\. You feel the magnitude of every scene and as if you are Odysseus's personal videographer on his journey. Every decision he has to make, every challenge he has to overcome, it almost feels as if it is your responsibility to carry. At one point I almost found myself psyching myself up to go storm Troy behind Odysseus's charge... Maybe the hardest part about this movie is it never allows the audience to breathe. I thought maybe the first 15, 20 minutes were a little slow if not disorganized, but once it found its footing, it was all gas and no brakes. I'm serious, there were maybe 3 or 4 windows that were no longer than 5-minutes where someone could have gone to the bathroom and not missed anything too important. I went with my brother, and he almost peed his pants because he couldn't find an opportunity to go. Personally, I wish he did-talk about the ultimate blackmail. You know what, now that I think about it, a movie having this problem is a good problem to have. The acting I thought was amazing overall. I won't dive into anyone specific because I thought everyone brought their best game. I know Tom Holland was getting some hate, but I mean, when every scene is with Hathaway and Robertson chances, are you're going to struggle to shine. I still think he played the part perfectly as asked of him. What I will say about the acting is, Nolan did his part in giving them a stage to perform on and they delivered. He threw them a meatball down the middle of the plate, and they sent it 450 over center field. Hathaway, Robertson, and Damon delivered as you would expect. Yeah, I really can't say I have any complaints. Do yourself a favor and go see this movie in theaters. It's meant to be seen on the big screen. It's the perfect summer blockbuster. Do it, do it now..
